Proto Cloud allows you to create custom interactive personas using avatar templates. Customize each persona for your specific use case by selecting your preferred default large language model (LLM) from the dropdown menu and defining a system prompt that shapes the persona's behavior, personality, and responses. For advanced integrations, you also have the option to connect your own custom LLM API endpoint.
Please follow the steps below to get started.
1. Sign in to Proto Cloud and navigate to the Avatars and Personas tab located on the sidebar menu.
2. Select your preferred Avatar template by clicking Create Persona.
3. Give your persona a name and write a brief description that explains its purpose, personality, or intended use case.
4. Customize your persona's thumbnail by uploading an image that meets the requirements below, or click Next to use the default thumbnail.
5. Select your preferred large language model (LLM) from the list of available models in the dropdown menu and click Next.
6. If you select Custom, you'll be prompted to enter your own LLM API endpoint, including the Base URL and either an X-API-Key or Bearer Token for authentication.
7. If you selected one of the default models from the Select LLM Model dropdown, you'll be prompted to enter a system prompt for your persona. This prompt defines your persona's behavior, personality, and responses. For guidance on creating an effective prompt, refer to the Writing the Perfect Prompt Guide. You can also use the ChatGPT Proto Persona Prompt Writer Tool to help generate or refine your prompt. Proceed by clicking Save.
*The Prompt field has a maximum limit of 200,000 characters.
8. Once created, your persona will appear under the My Personas sub-tab. To install it on a Proto device, click Install to view a list of devices you own or have guest access to. Select the desired device, click Install next to it, then click Done to complete the installation.
9. To launch your persona locally, tap the Apps & Personas tab on your Proto device, then select your persona.
To launch your persona remotely from Proto Cloud, navigate to Devices in the side menu, select your device, open the Apps & Personas tab under Device Details, and click your persona. The persona will automatically launch on the selected Proto device.
10. To edit your persona, navigate to the My Personas sub-tab. Click the ▼ arrow next to Manage, then select Edit, as shown in Image 9.1.
You will be taken to the Persona Details page. Under the Settings tab (shown in Image 9.2), you can customize several aspects of your persona.
Note: Any time you change a setting, you must close and relaunch the persona application on your Proto device for the changes to take effect.

Change Avatar
Click the pencil icon in the upper-right corner of the avatar thumbnail to select a different avatar template. Your system prompt and selected LLM will remain unchanged, but the avatar's appearance will be updated.
Auto Start (Enabled/Disabled)
By default, launching a persona displays an idle screen that reads "Tap the screen to start a conversation." When Auto Start is enabled, this screen is skipped and the persona immediately enters the interactive conversation view.
Captions (Enabled/Disabled)
Enable or disable on-screen captions that display both your spoken input and the persona's responses during conversations.
Back to Idle Button (Enabled/Disabled)
Choose whether the Back to Idle button (home icon) is visible during the conversation. When enabled, users can manually return the persona to the idle screen. When disabled, the button is hidden.
Timeout (Enabled/Disabled)
Enable a timeout to automatically return the persona to the idle screen after a specified period of inactivity. This can help conserve Proto Cloud credits when the persona is not actively being used.

11. Under the Model & Prompt tab, you can update your selected LLM and system prompt at any time. After making changes, close and relaunch any open persona application on your Proto device for the updates to take effect.
FAQs
Q: How do I purchase additional Proto Cloud credits?
A: Sign in to Proto Cloud, click your user icon in the upper-right corner, and navigate to Settings > Credits. From there, click Buy Credits to view the available credit packages and complete your purchase.
Q: How can I share my persona with other Proto users?
A: Personas are currently tied to the Proto Cloud account that created them and cannot be shared with other Proto Cloud accounts like devices or content.
If you want to use a persona on a device owned by another account, the device owner must grant you guest access to that device. Once you have guest access, you can install your persona on the shared device
Q: How can I tell when my persona begins consuming Proto Cloud credits?
A: Your persona does not consume credits while it is on the idle "Tap the screen to start a conversation" page. Credits begin to be metered as soon as you tap the screen and the avatar appears in the conversation view.
As a general guideline, persona usage consumes approximately 50 credits per minute while the avatar is active.
