5.1 Connection Overview
Before powering on ProtoPlayer, connect all required peripherals in the following order: included threaded antennas (2), display, input devices, network connection, and optional audio or camera accessories.
5.2 Connecting a Display
Option A: Touchscreen Display (Recommended for Interactive Installations)
- Connect the display via USB-C (Thunderbolt™ 4) — this carries both video, audio, and touch data in a single cable.
- If your touchscreen does not support USB-C video and audio, connect video and audio via HDMI, and keep the USB-C cable plugged in for touch input data.
- Your display will automatically turn on if it's powered by the player; otherwise, please ensure your monitor is switched on before booting ProtoPlayer.
- Adjust orientation as needed from the Settings > Orientation tab.
Option B: Standard Display
- Connect your standard monitor or TV to the HDMI 2.1 port or to a USB-C port (with a cable that supports video and audio) on the rear panel of the ProtoPlayer.
- Connect a USB keyboard and mouse for input.
- Adjust orientation as needed from the Settings > Orientation tab.
| NOTICE | Content orientation in Proto Cloud must match the display orientation configured in system settings. Mismatched orientations will result in incorrectly rotated output. Landscape content will display correctly in landscape orientation and vice versa. |
5.3 Connecting Audio
ProtoPlayer supports multiple audio output methods:
To verify your audio is connected, navigate to Settings > Audio > Speakers
- Through the connected display — Audio passes via HDMI or USB-C to the display’s built-in speakers.
- USB Speaker — Connect directly to any available USB-A port.
- 3.5 mm Audio Jack — Connect via the rear-panel combo audio jack.
- Bluetooth Speaker — Pair via system Bluetooth settings after powering on.
5.4 Connecting a Camera and Microphone
Camera and microphone are not included with the ProtoPlayer. Use compatible USB or Bluetooth accessories.
To verify your camera is connected, navigate to Settings > Diagnostic Test > Camera.
To verify your microphone is connected, navigate to Settings > Audio > Microphone.
- USB Webcam — Connect to any available USB-A/C port.
- USB Microphone — Connect to any available USB-A/C port.
- Bluetooth Microphone — Pair via system Bluetooth settings.
*Some webcams and speakers include built-in microphones.
5.5 Connecting to the Internet
- Ethernet (Recommended) — Connect a network cable to one of the rear-panel Ethernet ports for a stable, reliable connection. Confirm your connection through Settings > Network Settings > Ethernet.
- Wi-Fi — Ensure both antennas are attached, then configure your Wi-Fi network through Settings > Network Settings > Wi-Fi.
| NOTICE | An active internet connection is required to link ProtoPlayer to Proto Cloud, play cloud-hosted content, and use remote management features. |
5.6 Powering On
- Ensure all peripherals and the display are connected.
- Connect the power adapter to the DC power input on the rear panel.
- Plug the power adapter into a grounded electrical outlet.
- Press the Power button on the front panel to start the device.

8. Troubleshooting
8.1 Common Issues and Solutions
Refer to the table below for guidance on resolving frequently encountered issues. If your issue is not listed or the solution does not resolve the problem, contact Proto Support.
| Issue | Likely Cause | Recommended Action |
| Device offline in Proto Cloud | Wi-Fi or Ethernet failure; firewall blocking connection | Verify cable connections. Check Wi-Fi credentials and signal strength. Confirm firewall rules are not blocking Proto Cloud traffic. |
| No audio output | Incorrect audio output selected | Open audio settings and confirm the correct output device is selected. Restart the device if settings do not apply. |
| Controls unavailable or unresponsive | Device is offline | Reconnect device to the internet. Restart ProtoPlayer and verify it reappears in Proto Cloud. |
| Display shows no image | Loose cable or incorrect input source | Check HDMI or USB-C connections. Ensure the display is set to the correct input source. Try a different cable if available. |
| Device fails to power on | Power adapter issue; faulty outlet | Confirm the power adapter is fully seated. Try a different outlet. Ensure you are using the supplied 90 W adapter or equivalent. |
| Touchscreen not responding | Incorrect cable setup for touch data | If using HDMI for video, ensure a separate USB cable is connected for touch input. If using USB-C, confirm the cable supports both video and data. |
| HDMI passthrough not working | Feature not enabled; no capture card | Enable HDMI input via Proto Cloud dashboard. Confirm device is online. Verify a compatible capture card (e.g., Unisheen) is connected. |
| Content appears rotated | Display orientation mismatch | Match display orientation in system settings to the orientation used in Proto Cloud content settings. |
